Amaechi Compares Buhari and Tinubu, Says Buhari Outperformed Current Government in Security and INEC Independence

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has stirred fresh debate as Amaechi compares Buhari and Tinubu, declaring that ex-President Muhammadu Buhari achieved more than the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu.
Amaechi made this statement on Thursday during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, where he assessed the performance of the two leaders.
“Not everything was achieved. Buhari himself will admit he did not accomplish all he planned. But even at that, he was better than the current government by all standards,” Amaechi said, emphasizing his position as Amaechi compares Buhari and Tinubu.
The former Rivers State Governor argued that Buhari outperformed Tinubu particularly in the areas of security and institutional independence.
“In terms of security, Buhari focused on it. In transportation, I’m open to a new challenge. Again, the independence of INEC was higher under Buhari’s government than it is now,” he noted.
According to him, the current administration’s interference with the Independent National Electoral Commission was evident in the way new parties are being prevented from registering.
“Now, they can’t even register a party because government officials are telling them not to. Those who applied to INEC for registration — their rents have expired,” he claimed.
Amaechi clarified that his criticism of President Tinubu was not motivated by personal reasons. He stressed that as Amaechi compares Buhari and Tinubu, he would have been the first to applaud Tinubu if the administration was delivering good governance.
