Alleged Killing of Photo Journalist: Police Launch Manhunt for NCS Officer

Police in Kogi State have launched a manhunt for Adebayo Pelumi, a serving officer of the Nigeria Correctional Service, suspected of brutally murdering photojournalist, Ayo Aiyepeku in his office in the Government Residential Area (GRA) of Lokoja, Kogi State.

According to an eyewitness, who requested anonymity, the suspect, Adebayo Pelumi, reportedly stationed at Zone H in Makurdi, covering Kogi and Benue States, allegedly struck Aiyepeku on the head, dismembered his body, and stored the remains in a refrigerator.

The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the incident to journalists on Wednesday, said the suspect is now on the run, describing the killing as culpable homicide.

The spokesperson stated further that 

“The matter was reported to the Divisional Police Officer, A Division. Police visited the scene, and an investigation has commenced.”

The Kogi state commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for thorough probe while “efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspect, who is currently at large but will be prosecuted accordingly.” 

The Police therefore urge anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward as the investigation continues.
