AE FUNAI PRO Set To Join Nigerian Army Amid Low Applications

Elom Ubochi, Public Relations Officer at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike in Ebonyi State, has expressed interest in joining the Nigerian Army’s Short Service Scheme.
This move comes as the Army expresses concern over the low number of applicants from the Southeast region, with only 200 youths registering to join the force.
Ubochi stated, “I want to join the short service. I am very ready.”
His decision shows the need for more youths and Nigerians to consider joining the armed forces, particularly from regions with low representation.
The Nigerian Army has been actively recruiting new members, but the low turnout from the Southeast region has raised concerns.
Ubochi’s interest in joining the Army’s Short Service Scheme may inspire others to follow suit and help address the region’s underrepresentation in the military.
The Southeast region’s low recruitment numbers may be attributed to various factors, including incessant killings of military men by unknown gunmen, maltreatment and lack of awareness or cultural preferences.
Ubochi’s decision may help raise awareness and encourage others to consider a career in the armed forces, potentially increasing the region’s representation in the military.
Only 200 Igbo youths registered in South-East – Nigerian Army
Leader, Army Force Headquarters Recruitment Sensitisation Team, Anambra State, Brig.General Chima Ekeator, has revealed that only 200 youths from the South-East have registered for the ongoing Nigerian Army recruitment in the country.
Ekeator made the disclosure at a sensitisation organised for youth leaders and President-Generals (P-Gs) of different communities in the state, NAN reports.
He said there was a need to encourage youths in the various communities to take part in the exercise.
“This sensitisation is necessary because, according to records, only 200 persons have registered from the South-East, while in other states, not less than 4000 persons have registered.
“We are calling on youth leaders and P-Gs to go to their communities to talk to the youths and encourage them to take part in the recruitment,” Ekeator said.
Meanwhile, in a remark, the Anambra Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, gave assurance that the government would continue to sensitise the youths to show interest in the exercise.
Soludo, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Patrick Aghambah, called on traditional rulers and P-Gs to collaborate in mobilising ten youths each from their communities to join the Nigerian Army through the ongoing recruitment.
Similarly, Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne, the Commissioner, Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, said the recruitment targeted youths between ages 18 and 22 and encouraged them to enroll in the Army.
This is currently less than a few days after the Nigerian Army raised the alarm over the poor enlistment of South East youths into the military service, and called for a change of attitude to reverse the trend.
