ADC Leadership Resigns as Party Structure is Handed Over to 2027 Opposition Coalition

The entire leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally stepped down at all levels to allow a broad opposition coalition take over the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Outgoing ADC National Chairman, Ralph O. Nwosu, made the announcement on Wednesday during the official unveiling of the coalition at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja. The move is aimed at building a united political front to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election cycle.

As part of the transition, Nwosu announced the appointment of former Senate President David Mark as interim National Chairman, and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as interim National Secretary of the ADC, now serving as the official platform for the coalition.

The high-profile event drew key opposition leaders, including:

• Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President and 2023 PDP presidential candidate
• Peter Obi, Labour Party’s 2023 flag bearer
• Nasir El-Rufai, former Governor of Kaduna State
• Rotimi Amaechi, former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation

Also in attendance were prominent political figures such as:

• Dino Melaye, former House of Reps member
• Solomon Dalung, former Minister of Youth and Sports
• Dele Momodu, media entrepreneur and PDP chieftain
• Senator Gabriel Suswam
• Senator Ireti Kingibe (Labour Party)
• Emeka Ihedioha, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Reps
• Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (retd.), former Chief of Air Staff

Delegates from major opposition parties, including the PDP, Labour Party, SDP, and others, were also present—signaling a growing consensus to consolidate political strength ahead of 2027.
