Abia Teen to Represent Nigeria at 2025 TechGirls Programme in US

The Abia State Government has celebrated Miss Grace John Nkpa, a teenage student of Academic Planet School, Aba, who emerged as one of only three Nigerian representatives selected for the prestigious 2025 TechGirls International Exchange Programme in the United States.
Grace, chosen from a competitive pool of over 250,000 applicants, was honoured at the Expanded Executive Council meeting held on Monday. Her achievement was lauded as a shining example of Abia’s commitment to nurturing young talent and promoting excellence in STEM education.
The TechGirls International Exchange Programme, an initiative of the U.S. Department of State, brings together exceptional teenage girls from 37 countries for a summer exchange programme in the United States. Participants will undergo three months of hands-on STEM workshops, leadership training, and mentorship at Virginia Tech.
Speaking during the event, the Governor congratulated Grace and urged her to carry the “Abia spirit” with pride throughout her journey. He also encouraged her to use her experience to inspire and uplift others upon her return.
“Her journey lit up the room, and her speech was well-received. We could not be more proud,” the Governor said, noting that the state government has offered Grace financial support as part of its commitment to her success.
Appreciation was also extended to the Director-General of the Abia State Orientation Agency, Ure Abazie, the management of Academic Planet School, and Grace’s family for their unwavering support.
Described as “living proof that our girls can dream boldly and beyond borders,” Grace John Nkpa now stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration for young girls in Abia and across Nigeria.
