Wizkid Becomes First African Artist To Surpass 9 Billion Streams On Spotify

Global Afrobeats star Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has made history as the first African artist to exceed 9 billion streams across all credits on Spotify.
The Nigerian music icon crossed the milestone on the global streaming platform, cementing his status as one of the most influential and commercially successful African acts in history.
Wizkid’s most streamed song remains the 2016 global hit One Dance, his collaboration with Drake and Kyla, which has racked up a staggering 3.7 billion streams. The track ranks among Spotify’s top 10 most streamed songs of all time and holds a Guinness World Record as the first song to hit 1 billion streams on the platform.
As a lead artist, his biggest success is the Grammy-nominated Essence featuring Tems, which has garnered over 303 million streams. The track became a global sensation and played a key role in bringing Afrobeats to mainstream international audiences.
With this latest feat, Wizkid joins the elite tier of the world’s most streamed artists. While Taylor Swift tops the list with over 1.5 billion monthly streams, Wizkid’s 9 billion total marks a monumental achievement for African music on the world stage.
