“Why I Hate April Fool Day” – Nigeria-born Tech Expert

Nigerians join in the global celebration of April Fools’ Day, Charles Awuzie, a Nigerian tech expert, has shared his personal story of how he hates April Fools day owing to past experiences.
“It all started when my university girlfriend told me she was pregnant with my child on April Fools’ Day,” Awuzie recalled. “I was terrified, and the fear lingered throughout the day. It was a hot day in Nigeria, but my sweating had nothing to do with the weather.”
Years later, on another April Fools’ Day, Awuzie received devastating news from his rheumatologist.
“The doctor told me that I may no longer be able to have children due to my autoimmune condition and medication side effects,” he said. “I was overcome with anxiety and regret for not having children in my 20s.”
However, in a surprising twist, Awuzie received a second opinion from his doctor a year later, informing him that he was once again able to have children. “It was a joyful moment, and I realized how much I valued the possibility of having children,” he said.
As a tech expert, Awuzie has leveraged his experience to raise awareness about the importance of valuing life and not fearing what others may think. He emphasized the need to rethink the stigma surrounding single parents and unplanned pregnancies.
“Having a child out of wedlock may be socially unacceptable, but it’s essential to remember that every child is a gift,” Awuzie said. “Don’t make decisions based on what others will think; consider what’s best for you and your child.”
As April Fools’ Day celebrations continue, Awuzie has a message for pranksters: “Abeg, DJ Cuppy, please don’t prank me today!”
“I don’t like April Fools’ Day, but I’m grateful for the lessons I’ve learned,” Awuzie said.
“It’s a day that reminds me to appreciate what truly matters in life.”
