Osimhen Named 2023 CAF Footballer of the Year

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has been awarded the prestigious title of the 2023 African Footballer of the Year.
The announcement was made during a significant event in Marakesh, solidifying Osimhen’s status as one of the world’s best players.
Osimhen’s remarkable year included leading Napoli to an unprecedented Serie A title, where he scored 26 league goals and became the first African player to win the Pichichi (top scorer) award in the Italian top flight.
This achievement also broke the longstanding record held by George Weah. Napoli’s last Serie A title was secured 33 years ago during the era of legendary player Diego Maradona.
In addition to winning the Serie A title, Osimhen earned recognition by being included in the Serie A Team of the Year and receiving the Best Striker prize.
His outstanding form was further highlighted by his eight -place ranking in the 2023 Ballon d’Or, making him the highest-ranked African and the most-ranked Nigerian in the history of the award.
Victor Osimhen’s triumph in the 2023 African Footballer of the Year award end Nigeria’s lengthy 24-year wait for the prestigious individual accolade.
