Victor Boniface, the 24-year-old Nigerian striker, is heading back to Bayer Leverkusen today after medical concerns delayed his potential transfer to AC Milan.

Boniface underwent extensive tests at Milan’s La Madonnina clinic and Galeazzi Hospital over the past 48 hours but was sent back to Germany without clearance from the Serie A club.

The holdup is linked to his injury history, including two cruciate ligament tears at Bodø/Glimt in 2019 and recurring muscle problems, prompting Milan to proceed with caution.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Sunday that Milan is yet to be fully satisfied with Boniface’s medical results.

“After medical tests at AC Milan, Victor Boniface returns to Germany, as there’s still no green light to his move. After 48 hours in Milano, Boniface will be back in Leverkusen today, waiting for AC Milan’s imminent decision on his medical tests/checks made over the weekend,” Romano said.

The deal under negotiation between Milan and Leverkusen includes a €5 million loan fee with a €24 million purchase option.

The club’s caution highlights how critical medical evaluations have become in modern transfers, where a player’s fitness can make or break multi-million-euro agreements.
