UNN Student Becky Breaks Silence, Denies Claims Of Boyfriend Denial After Viral Outing With Asherkine

Ifeme Rebecca Yahoma, a student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) popularly known as Becky, has publicly refuted viral claims that she denied having a boyfriend during a recent encounter with popular content creator Asherkine.

The controversy erupted after Asherkine visited UNN and took Rebecca on a lavish outing that included shopping, gifts, and a brand-new phone. Before the outing, he had asked Rebecca if she was in a relationship, and she responded that she had never had a boyfriend.

Following the visit, a photo surfaced online showing Rebecca with a man identified as Ken, who claimed to be her boyfriend. The image quickly went viral, with many accusing her of lying for material gain.

In a video statement released by Rebecca, she distanced herself from the man and the allegations, describing the entire situation as false and distressing.

“I’m here to debunk the whole story going around about me denying my boyfriend. First of all, the name ‘Becky Chinaza’ he is using is not my name. I don’t know who this person is,” she said.

She further denied the authenticity of the viral WhatsApp chats allegedly linked to her: “The WhatsApp message he’s been sharing across social media is not me — that isn’t even my DP. Even the replies don’t sound like me. I don’t speak that kind of English.”

Maintaining her innocence, Rebecca insisted, “I do not have a boyfriend, and I have never, ever had a boyfriend. If he is claiming to be my boyfriend, he should bring real evidence and stop photoshopping my old videos and TikTok clips.”

Her statement has sparked mixed reactions online. While many praised her for boldly speaking out, others remain skeptical of her claims.

Meanwhile, UNN’s Department of Mass Communication has also issued a statement defending the student, condemning the viral image as fake and defamatory.
