UNIZIK probes Lecturer-Student scuffle amid public outcry

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has initiated a full investigation into a recent incident involving a lecturer and a student, following widespread attention on social media.
The university administration identified the individuals involved as Dr. Chukwudi Okoye of the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies and Goddy Mbakwe Precious, a third-year student in the Department of History and International Studies.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, the Office of the Vice-Chancellor emphasized that the matter is being handled with the utmost seriousness. Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph I. Ikechebelu, has mandated a thorough, transparent, and impartial inquiry to establish the facts surrounding the case.
“The university is committed to upholding discipline, self-reliance, and excellence, while ensuring adherence to the principles of fair hearing, equity, and justice,” the statement read.
University authorities urged all parties involved, as well as the general public, to remain calm as the investigation unfolds. They assured that appropriate actions and sanctions would be implemented based on the findings.
Reaffirming its dedication to high moral and ethical standards, the institution reiterated that misconduct, indiscipline, or any form of unacceptable behavior would not be tolerated within its academic community.
