Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has officially banned all “signing off” celebrations by final-year students, citing recurring incidents of chaos, violence, and campus disruptions linked to these events.

The university management expressed concern over the presence of unauthorized individuals during such celebrations, which pose potential risks to the safety and security of students, staff, and the wider university community. UNIZIK said the ban is necessary to maintain order and protect everyone on campus.

Students found participating in or organizing any form of “signing off” activities may face strict disciplinary measures, including possible rustication. Similarly, outsiders involved in such events on campus risk arrest and prosecution for disorderly conduct.

The university urged students to focus on their academic responsibilities and report any misconduct or security threats to the appropriate authorities. This move aligns with actions taken by other Nigerian institutions to curb disruptive and unsafe celebratory practices.
