University Don Distributes Educational Materials to Schools in Ebonyi

A Senior Lecturer at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, and Chief Executive Officer of Euslar Consultancy Services Ltd., Dr. Mrs. Euslar Nnenna Onu, on Tuesday 10th February 2026 distributed educational materials to selected schools across Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Dr. Onu, a daughter of Umuakpu Ngbo Autonomous Community, Ohaukwu LGA, who is married to a medical practitioner from Ivo Local Government Area, distributed school desks, customized exercise books, packs of chalk, and other learning materials to support teaching and learning in selected public schools in Ohaukwu Local Government. The gesture was also aimed at complementing the education agenda of the Ebonyi State Government under the leadership of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.

Speaking while flagging off the distribution, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Donatus Chukwuma Ilang, commended Mrs. Onu for her commitment to education and for remembering her people despite being married outside Ohaukwu Local Government Area. He described the intervention as timely and laudable.
The Commissioner enumerated several efforts of the Ebonyi State Government under Governor Nwifuru toward advancing education in the state, including recruitment of qualified teachers, minimum wage, special schools which is ongoing across the LGA’s, etc and called on parents and communities to complement government initiatives by providing basic educational materials such as pens, school uniforms, books, and lockers for their children. He commended the Ohaukwu Education Supervisor for taking action against illegal schools in the LGA and warned individuals operating illegal schools to jettison the idea, and emphasized government commitment to giving Ebonyi children a quality education.

Delivering his goodwill message, the Executive Chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government, represented by the supervisor for education, Comr Ekpere, thanked His Excellency Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru FNIOB FCAI GGCEHF for his several interventions programs in public schools and extolled Dr Mrs Onu for complementing the efforts of the Government. He noted the efforts of the Local Government authority in stamping out quack schools and called on parents to always send their wards to government schools where there are trained and qualified teachers.
Goodwill messages were delivered by several stakeholders, including the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Comrade Sunday Nwangbo, PhD; the Education Authority Secretary of Ohaukwu LGA; Headteachers; classroom teachers; the beneficiaries through Master Akpu Ifeanyi and the Prime Minister of Umuakpu Community, Chief Ogo Umeh. They commended the donor for the rare gesture__a feat they said, most of the government functionaies could not do and called on the government to demonstrate increased commitment to basic education.
In appreciation of the gesture, HRH Eze Emmanuel Okpe Igwe offered special prayers for Dr. Onu and described her as a proud daughter of the soil and the first from the community to embark on such a magnanimous educational intervention. The elders of the community also presented her with a fat she-goat as a token of appreciation for her exceptional contribution to education and community development.
In her remarks, Dr. Mrs. Euslar Nnenna Onu stated that the initiative was an age long dream and personal effort aimed at complementing government interventions in the education sector. She described the gesture as her modest contribution toward improving access to quality education in Ohaukwu Local Government Area, with special focus on her alma mater, Ndiegu Igbube Community Primary School, Ngbo.
The event attracted a wide array of stakeholders, including the Executive Chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Prince Ikechukwu Odono, who was represented by the Supervisor for Education. Also present were the Traditional Ruler of Umuakpu Community, His Royal Highness, Eze Emmanuel Okpe Igwe, Education officials, Headteachers, Teachers, Principals, pupil’s, students, Community leaders, as well as friends of Mr. Nnenna Onu, colleagues, and schoolmates who accompanied Dr. Onu to the flag-off ceremony.
