UniAbuja Pro-Chancellor Tells Wike: Half Of Our Land Is Mountain, Not Usable

Pro-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Dr. Olanrewaju Tejuoso, has revealed that half of the 4,000 hectares allocated to the institution by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike is made up of mountainous terrain, limiting the university’s usable space.
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV, Tejuoso expressed concern over the impact of the land reduction on proposed development plans. He recalled that the university originally had 11,000 hectares before it was cut down to 4,000 by the minister.
He disclosed that the Cancer Research Centre of Nigeria had shown interest in partnering with the university to build a research facility, but the terrain poses a significant challenge.
“Even the 4,000 hectares — 2,000 of it is a mountain. When you fly out of the Abuja airport, the mountain you see belongs to the university,” Tejuoso stated. “In reality, we only have 2,000 hectares of flat land. Maybe Minister Wike should come and take over the mountain and develop it.”
His comments highlight the ongoing tension between the university and the FCT ministry over land allocation and development space.
