Two Suspects Arrested for Truck Hijacking and Assault in Ebonyi

The Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS), Ikwo Division, has arrested two suspects, identified as Chukwudi and Chinedu, for allegedly hijacking a truck loaded with gmelina wood and brutally assaulting the driver at Orie Echara in Nzachi Echara village, Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The incident occurred on the night of August 25, 2025. According to Sergeant Alo Mmaduabuchi Divine of the NFSS Special Squad Unit in Ikwo, the arrest followed a distress call received at exactly 10:45 p.m. from the President of the Nzachi Echara Development Organization (NEDO).
The caller reported that armed individuals had attacked a truck driver transporting gmelina wood within the community.
The suspects reportedly intercepted the truck, claimed ownership of the vehicle, and demanded the driver step down. When the driver refused, a violent altercation ensued. The assailants allegedly stabbed or punctured the vehicle’s tires with a dagger and beat the driver severely, leaving him in critical condition. The victim is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
ASF Mgbebu Felix Nwafor, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Ikwo Division, confirmed that the arrest was made in collaboration with local community members. He praised the swift coordination between the NFSS team and residents, which led to the successful apprehension of the suspects.
The NEDO President also stated that Chukwudi and Chinedu have long been a menace in the community, often seen carrying firearms and robbing residents during night hours. He emphasized that the community has collectively resolved to ensure the suspects do not return to terrorize the area.
The two suspects have since been transferred to the Crack Squad unit in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, for further investigation and prosecution.
Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to working with communities to ensure security and justice across the state.
