Two Sisters Arrested for Allegedly Orchestrating Brother’s Kidnap in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested two sisters, Juliet Chukwu and Ngozi Nancy Chukwu, for allegedly masterminding the kidnapping of their own elder brother, Mr. Friday Chukwu.

The suspects, who hail from Amaeze village in Ishiagu, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, were reportedly involved in the abduction that took place along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway near the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla, in Nkanu West LGA.

According to Punch, Juliet is said to be an officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), while Ngozi is reportedly with the Nigeria Immigration Service. However, the publication noted that it had not independently verified their affiliations at the time of reporting.

Investigations revealed that the sisters allegedly lured their brother into a trap that led to his abduction in June 2025, and N30 million was paid as ransom for his release.

Weeks later, the two were linked to another kidnapping — this time of Dennis Igwe, General Manager of China Oriental Mining Company — in the same area. They were arrested in a hotel where they were allegedly caught sharing the N10 million ransom paid for Igwe’s release.

Social media commentator Comrade Chika Nwoba, who confirmed the development, raised concerns about the sisters’ possible connections to a broader network of crimes, including collusion with criminal groups in Ishiagu, railway theft, and pipeline vandalism. He called on the NSCDC and the Immigration Service to take decisive disciplinary action.

“The recent case shouldn’t be treated like previous ones. The Civil Defence Corps and Immigration Service must ensure the culprits are appropriately punished,” Nwoba wrote.

Chairman of Ivo LGA, Chief Emmanuel Ajah, also confirmed the arrest, stating:
“Yes, we are aware of the incidents, but they didn’t happen in my LGA. The sisters of Mr. Friday Chukwu, who is my friend, have been arrested. They claimed six people were involved, and four are still at large. I’ve written to both the Enugu Police Command and the Ebonyi Command of the Civil Defence Corps. Our priority remains the safety of our people.”
