Two Fake EFCC Staff Jailed for Impersonation in Kano

Two men who falsely claimed to be operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have been convicted and sentenced by Justice Nasiru Saminu of the Kano State High Court.
Buhari Abdullahi and Umar Usman were arraigned by the Kano Zonal Directorate of the EFCC on a one-count charge after they were caught impersonating investigators of the anti-graft agency.
According to the charge, the duo used a forged EFCC identity card to support their false claim of working for the Commission—an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 132 of the Penal Code Law.
The charge reads: “That you Buhari Abdullahi and Umar Mukhtar Usman sometime in May 2025 at Kano within the jurisdiction of this honourable court falsely impersonated to be investigators of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) where you used false identity card and paraded yourselves as staff of EFCC and you thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 132 of the Penal Code law.”
Both men pleaded guilty when the charge was read to them.
Following their plea, EFCC counsel Idris I. Haruna presented the facts of the case and urged the court to convict them accordingly.
Justice Saminu found them guilty and sentenced each of them to six months imprisonment, with an option of N50,000 fine.
Their conviction followed their arrest by EFCC operatives, who uncovered their fraudulent activities.
