Two Charged With Murder of 26-Year-Old Nigerian in London Stabbing

Two people have been charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of 26-year-old Nigerian, Ayowale Aladejana, who was killed in New Cross, southeast London.
According to a statement from the Metropolitan Police, detectives handling the case have now charged a man and a woman with his murder.
“Ben Wazabanga, 23 (24.10.2001) of Fairfax Road, Bedford was charged with murder and possession of a knife on Monday, 4 August. He was remanded in custody and will appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 4 August.
Ronique Belfon, 23 (10.05.2002) of Morinsbury Road, Bedford was charged with murder on Monday, 4 August. She was remanded to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 4 August,” the police said.
Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, who is leading the investigation, expressed sympathy to the victim’s loved ones.
“Our thoughts are with Ayowale’s family and friends at this difficult time. I understand this incident will be concerning and we are carrying out a fast-paced and thorough investigation to establish the circumstances. I would encourage anyone who has not yet spoken to us,” she said.
Police launched an investigation after receiving a report about a man with stab wounds at a home on Monson Road, New Cross, at 7:26 p.m. on Saturday, August 2. Officers rushed to the scene alongside paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.
Despite their efforts, Ayowale was pronounced dead at the scene.
A post-mortem examination conducted the following day confirmed the preliminary cause of death as a stab wound to the chest.
The Metropolitan Police also stated that Ayowale’s family is being supported by specially trained officers as investigations continue.
