Trump Blasts Elon Musk’s New Political Party as “Ridiculous,” Calls Former Ally a “Train Wreck”

U.S. President Donald Trump has slammed Elon Musk’s decision to launch a new political party, calling it “ridiculous” and branding the billionaire tech mogul a “train wreck” who has “gone off the rails.”

Trump’s scathing remarks come after Musk, once a close ally and head of Trump’s “Department of Government Efficiency,” announced plans on Saturday to form the “America Party,” aimed at disrupting what he described as the country’s “one-party system.”

Speaking to reporters on Sunday before boarding Air Force One from his New Jersey golf club, Trump dismissed the idea outright.
“I think it’s ridiculous to start a third party,” he said. “It’s always been a two-party system, and I think starting a third party just adds to confusion. Third parties have never worked. So he can have fun with it, but I think it’s ridiculous.”

Musk, the South African-born CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, declared that his new political movement would fight against what he sees as unchecked government spending and systemic corruption in Washington. He specifically criticized Trump’s massive tax and spending bill, which he claims will explode the national debt.

“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste and graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,” Musk posted on X, the social media platform he owns.

Once a central figure in Trump’s cost-cutting government initiative, Musk has since distanced himself, accusing both Republicans and Democrats of fiscal recklessness. He has pledged to campaign aggressively against lawmakers who supported the president’s spending package.

Details about the “America Party” remain unclear, including whether it has been formally registered with U.S. electoral authorities. However, political analysts say Musk’s move could spell trouble for the Republican Party, potentially splitting conservative votes in the 2026 midterm elections and beyond.
