Troops Foil Terror Plot in Taraba, Arrest Two Suspected Terrorists

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have disrupted terrorist plans and apprehended two suspected militants in separate operations in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
Acting on credible intelligence, soldiers stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Wukari arrested a 45-year-old suspect, Felix Myina, who hails from Ukum Local Government Area in Benue State.
According to the 6 Brigade’s Public Relations Officer, Captain Olubodunde Oni, preliminary findings identified Myina as a senior member of a notorious kidnapping and banditry gang operating under a wanted kingpin known as Mcianan, also called Yellow.
“The group has been a major threat to motorists and residents along the Jootar–Wukari axis,” the statement noted. At the time of his arrest, troops recovered a Tecno mobile phone from the suspect.
In a separate operation, troops thwarted what appeared to be preparations for a terrorist attack within Wukari town and apprehended a suspected member of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
The suspect, Abubakar Yusuf, 26, from Borno State but residing in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba, was intercepted while allegedly conducting suspicious rituals at Aku-Uka Palace Junction—a location flagged as a potential ISWAP target.
According to the army, Yusuf was performing rites believed to be aimed at “spiritually tying” the town in order to ease access for fellow terrorists.
Items recovered from the scene included: one dead chicken, nine unhatched rotten eggs, an animal horn, and a bottle filled with powdered substance and fresh meat.
Both suspects are currently in custody and are said to be providing valuable intelligence.
Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 OPWS, commended the alertness of the troops and the support of residents who reported suspicious behavior.
“The Brigade remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives and restore peace and stability across the region,” he said.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely information to aid security agencies in their efforts to rid Taraba of criminal elements.
