Tinubu Visits Benue After Deadly Attacks Leave Over 100 Dead

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, for a one-day condolence visit following a wave of deadly attacks that left over 100 people dead, mostly in the Yelewata area of Guma Local Government.
His visit, described as a peace and solidarity mission, began with his arrival in Makurdi, the state capital. The President is expected to meet with victims’ families, visit affected communities, and hold a town hall meeting with stakeholders at the Government House Banquet Hall before returning to Abuja later in the day.
The trip comes just days after coordinated attacks by armed groups claimed dozens of lives, prompting widespread outrage and renewed calls for urgent federal intervention. Tinubu postponed a scheduled trip to Kaduna in order to prioritize the Benue visit.
Security chiefs, including the Inspector General of Police and the National Security Adviser, have also been deployed to the state, as the federal government steps up efforts to contain the violence and support displaced residents.
