Tinubu to Attend 8th-Day Prayer for Late Awujale of Ijebuland on Sunday

President Bola Tinubu is set to attend the eighth-day Fidau prayer in honour of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, who passed away on July 13, 2025, at the age of 91.
This was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. According to the statement, Tinubu will depart Abuja on Sunday for the ceremony.
“The President will join Governor Dapo Abiodun and other dignitaries at the event, which will be held at the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu-Ode,” the statement read.
Oba Adetona, who reigned for 65 years, was buried at his private residence in the Government Reserved Area, Igbeba, Ijebu-Ode, shortly after his passing. His death occurred just as the nation was mourning former President Muhammadu Buhari.
On Monday, political leaders, traditional rulers, and residents gathered in Ijebu-Ode to pay their last respects to the revered monarch. The Janazah prayer was led by the Chief Imam of Ijebuland, Miftaudeen Gbadegesin Ayanbadejo.
In honour of the late king, markets across Ijebu-Ode were closed on the day of his burial, following a directive from the Chairman of the Local Government Area, Dare Alebiosu.
