President Bola Ahmed Tinubu closely watched the live coverage of Governor Umo Eno’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant political development ahead of the 2027 elections.

A video shared by the president’s media team showed Tinubu viewing the event from his Lagos residence, alongside National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and other key allies. The moment underscored the president’s interest in the growing shift of political allegiance, particularly in the South-South region.

The defection ceremony, held at the Akwa Ibom Government House in Uyo, drew high-ranking APC officials and governors. During the event, Governor Eno openly pledged support for Tinubu’s leadership and endorsed his re-election bid. “I have no apology whatsoever for supporting President Tinubu for a second term in office, to complete the reforms he has started,” he said.

The APC described Eno’s move as a welcome and strategic decision, expressing confidence that his defection would further strengthen the party’s presence in Akwa Ibom State.

By following the event closely, Tinubu signaled just how critical the state has become in the national political equation—and how the ruling party is positioning itself for the road to 2027.
