Tinubu Mourns Highlife Legend Mike Ejeagha, Hails His Cultural Legacy

President Bola Tinubu has paid tribute to legendary highlife musician and folklorist, Mike Ejeagha, following his death at the age of 95.

In a statement released on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Ejeagha as “one of Nigeria’s greatest folklorists, songwriters, and musicians in the Igbo language.”

Tinubu praised Ejeagha’s dedication to preserving and promoting Igbo traditions through his music, noting that his unique storytelling style had inspired generations and upheld the nation’s cultural heritage.

“May the spirit and values of Gentleman Mike Ejeagha’s music continue to remind us that music has the power to revive, heal and redirect energy towards worthy causes that help build our nation,” Tinubu said.

The President also commended the Enugu State Government, led by Governor Peter Mbah, for recognizing and honoring Ejeagha during his lifetime.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of the music icon’s soul and asked God to grant comfort to his family, friends, and fans across the country.

Ejeagha passed away on Friday night at about 8 p.m. at the 32 Garrison Hospital in Enugu after a prolonged illness. His death was confirmed on Saturday by his eldest son, Emma.

“My father passed away due to a long-standing ailment,” Emma told journalists in Enugu.
