Tinubu, Information Minister Mourn Veteran Journalist Leon Usigbe

President Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of Dr. Leon Usigbe, a seasoned journalist with The Tribune Newspapers and a respected member of the State House Press Corps.
Usigbe, who served as the Abuja Bureau Chief of the newspaper, passed away Friday night after a brief illness, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, integrity, and professionalism.
In a statement released on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the late journalist as “a veteran State House correspondent and a professional whose unwavering dedication to truth, balance, and ethical journalism garnered him immense respect across the media landscape, among public officials, and from readers nationwide.”
The President praised Usigbe’s calm demeanor and deep contributions to the democratic process through his reporting. “I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues at The Tribune, and the entire Statehouse Press Corps.
“May Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest and comfort all who mourn this great loss,” the President said.
Also reacting to the loss, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, issued a moving tribute, calling Usigbe’s passing “a heartbreaking and profound loss to the Nigerian media industry.”
“It is with profound shock and deep sadness that I received the heartbreaking news of the sudden demise of Dr. Leon Habby Usigbe, the Abuja Bureau Chief of Tribune Newspaper,” he said.
The minister hailed Usigbe as “an outstanding journalist, a highly cerebral professional, and a shining light within the Nigerian media landscape.”
