Tinubu Inaugurates First Section Of Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially inaugurated the first completed section of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, marking a major milestone in Nigeria’s infrastructure development.
The 30-kilometer stretch runs from Ahmadu Bello Way to the Jakande Estate area of Lekki in Lagos.
Speaking at the ceremony on Saturday, May 31, Tinubu described the highway as a transformative project under his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He said it would boost connectivity, promote tourism, and enhance economic growth across Nigeria’s coastal regions.

“This project was conceived nearly 30 years ago. We are proud to bring it to life in a way that benefits our people and unites our regions,” Tinubu said.
The 700-kilometer highway is designed to connect Lagos to Calabar, passing through nine coastal states. The president praised the Ministry of Works and Hitech Construction Company for overcoming challenges including environmental concerns and route controversies.

In addition to the highway inauguration, Tinubu also virtually commissioned several other major projects across southern Nigeria. These included the East–West Road (Eleme Junction to Ahoada) in Rivers State, the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway (Sagamu to Ibadan section), and the Alesi–Ugep Road in Cross River State.
The Lagos-Calabar project is being positioned as a legacy initiative that will significantly improve transportation, trade, and integration across Nigeria’s southern corridor.
