Tinubu Extends Customs CG Bashir Adeniyi’s Tenure By One Year

President Bola Tinubu has approved a one-year extension of tenure for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adeniyi, whose current term was set to end on August 31, 2025.
The announcement was made on Thursday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, who stated that the extension would allow Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete key initiatives under the current administration.
According to the statement, Adeniyi’s continued leadership is crucial for advancing the modernization of the Nigeria Customs Service, implementing the National Single Window Project, and fulfilling Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.
President Tinubu was said to have commended Adeniyi’s dedication and performance, expressing confidence that the extension would further empower the Customs Service to fulfill its core responsibilities in trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
Adeniyi was officially appointed as Comptroller-General in October 2023, after serving in an acting capacity following the departure of his predecessor, Hameed Ali, in June 2023.
