Tinubu Embarks On Diplomatic Mission To Saint Lucia And Brazil To Strengthen Global South Ties

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will today begin a two-nation diplomatic mission to the Caribbean and South America, with scheduled visits to Saint Lucia and Brazil. The trip is part of Nigeria’s broader strategy to deepen influence and partnerships within the Global South.
According to a statement released Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu’s first stop will be in Saint Lucia for a State Visit. The visit is aimed at boosting Nigeria’s engagement with Caribbean nations through cultural and economic cooperation under the African Union’s Sixth Region framework, which acknowledges the African diaspora as key to Africa’s global relations.
While in Saint Lucia, Tinubu is expected to hold bilateral talks with Governor-General Cyril Errol Melchiades Charles and Prime Minister Philip Pierre. He will also deliver a special address to a joint session of the Saint Lucian Senate and House of Assembly.
The address is scheduled to take place at the William Jefferson Clinton Ballroom at Sandals Grande in Gros Islet and will be attended by Heads of Government from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), senior Saint Lucian officials, diplomats, Nigerian nationals, and OECS Director-General Dr. Didacus Jules.
A major highlight of the visit will be a high-level working luncheon between President Tinubu and OECS leaders. Discussions will centre on strengthening economic ties, educational collaboration, infrastructure development, and promoting shared prosperity through cultural solidarity.
President Tinubu will also visit the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in Castries, where he will engage with students and academic staff in an effort to build lasting academic and research partnerships between Nigeria and the Caribbean.
“This visit underscores Nigeria’s growing commitment to engaging Caribbean nations more meaningfully, not only through traditional diplomacy but through people-to-people and institutional linkages that promote sustainable development and cultural heritage,” the statement read.
