Tinubu Deserves Two Terms Like Buhari – Onanuga Tells Northern Critics

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has said Tinubu deserves a second term in office just as the late Muhammadu Buhari had, dismissing recent criticisms from northern groups as politically driven.

In an interview with Trust Radio on Wednesday, Onanuga addressed concerns raised by the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), which had accused the Tinubu administration of marginalising the North.

He described the allegations as part of a broader agenda aimed at weakening the southern presidency for selfish political gain.

“This President is a Nigerian. He deserves the same two terms that Buhari had. Let’s not sacrifice the country for personal ambition,” Onanuga said.

He called on northern leaders to exercise patience, noting that southerners endured eight years under Buhari’s leadership without agitation.

Responding to claims of northern exclusion in appointments and infrastructure, Onanuga insisted the issues of underdevelopment affect the entire country, not just one region.

“You need to get your statistics right. It’s all political mischief designed to undermine the President. There are bad roads across the country, not just in the North,” he stated.

He also pointed out that several key security positions are currently occupied by northerners, including the National Security Adviser, Chief of Defence Staff, and the Ministers of Defence — proof, he said, of Tinubu’s inclusive governance.

Onanuga further highlighted security improvements in northern areas like Kaduna State, noting: “Places like Birnin Gwari and Igabi are now safer. I drove from Kaduna to Abuja without incident, a journey that was once unthinkable.”
