Tinubu Departs Japan For Brazil After Attending TICAD9

President Bola Tinubu left Yokohama, Japan, on Thursday night en route to Brazil, where he will begin a state visit on August 24, according to a statement from his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Onanuga said in a release dated August 22, 2025, that Tinubu will briefly stop in Los Angeles before continuing to Brasilia, the Brazilian capital.
“President Tinubu will continue his diplomatic engagements in Brazil after successfully attending the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9),” the statement read.
The President began his two-nation tour on August 15, departing Abuja with a stopover in Dubai before arriving in Yokohama on August 18.
While in Japan, Tinubu attended the TICAD9 opening ceremony and plenary on August 20, held bilateral meetings with key partners, and met with Japanese companies investing in Nigeria. He concluded the visit with an interactive session with Nigerians in the diaspora on Thursday night.
“The engagements have been productive, and the President is now set to build on these discussions with strategic cooperation in Brazil,” Onanuga added.
The TICAD9 conference, co-hosted by Japan, the United Nations, UNDP, the African Union Commission, and the World Bank, focused on Africa’s economic transformation, boosting private investment, fostering innovation, and building a resilient and sustainable society.
