TikToker Tsulange Sentenced To One Year In Jail For Indecent Conduct

TikToker Tsulange sentenced to one year in jail for public indecency by a Magistrate Court in Kano State, following his arrest over a controversial comedy skit that sparked public outrage.
The popular TikTok personality, whose real name is Umar Hashim, was convicted of public misconduct by Magistrate Hadiza Muhammad Hassan at the Gyadi Gyadi Magistrate Court. The court found him guilty after he appeared in a viral video bathing on a public road while dressed in female undergarments.
Delivering judgment, Magistrate Hassan ruled that TikToker Tsulange sentenced to one year in jail would have the option to avoid jail time by paying a fine of ₦80,000. Additionally, he was ordered to pay ₦20,000 to the Kano State Censorship Board to cover the cost of investigation and prosecution.
The case was filed in June 2025 by the Kano State Censorship Board, which arrested Tsulange shortly after the skit surfaced online. The skit was widely condemned for its explicit nature, prompting the board to take legal action against the creator.
The incident has reignited debates about content regulation, freedom of expression, and cultural norms in northern Nigeria, especially as TikToker Tsulange sentenced to one year in jail becomes one of the most discussed stories in the region’s online space.
Supporters and critics alike continue to weigh in on social media, debating whether the punishment was justified. Regardless, the ruling sets a precedent for digital content creators operating in culturally sensitive areas, as TikToker Tsulange sentenced to one year in jail highlights the importance of balancing creativity with respect for local laws and values.
