Team Delta Clinches Victory At Gateway Games 2024, Extends Dominance In Nigerian Sports

Team Delta has reaffirmed its supremacy in Nigerian sports by emerging as the overall winner of the 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged Gateway Games 2024, held in Ogun State.

At the festival’s grand closing ceremony at the Moshood Abiola Sports Complex, Delta was officially crowned champions after securing an impressive total of 337 medals — 126 gold, 100 silver, and 111 bronze. This marks Delta’s fifth consecutive victory and ninth overall triumph in the history of the National Sports Festival.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori celebrated the achievement, dedicating the win to the state’s commitment to youth development under his administration’s MORE Agenda.

“This is not just about medals; it’s about building lives and inspiring hope,” the governor said. “The MORE Agenda has opened doors for our youths to thrive through sports, and this win is proof of what is possible when leadership meets action.”

Host state Ogun delivered its best-ever performance, finishing second with 93 gold, 65 silver, and 80 bronze medals. Bayelsa closely followed in third place, also earning 92 gold, 65 silver, and 80 bronze.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, praised Ogun State for delivering a world-class event and applauded the athletes for showcasing strength, resilience, and unity throughout the competition.
