TCN begins maintenance of transmission stations in FCT

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has alerted Federal Capital Territory residents to planned power outages in select areas due to maintenance work at two transmission substations.
In a statement issued Saturday, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, explained that the outages will affect Gwagwalada and its environs on Saturday and parts of Abuja on Sunday.
According to the statement, on Saturday, December 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., engineers will conduct maintenance on a 60MVA transformer and switchgear at the Gwagwalada 330/132/33kV Substation, disrupting the electricity supply in Gwagwalada for four hours.
Similarly, on Sunday, December 29, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., maintenance on a 60MVA transformer at the Kukwaba 132/33kV Substation will cause power interruptions in Wuye, EFCC, Federal Medical Centre, Coca-Cola, Idu Railway Station, Citec, and Life Camp.
TCN apologized for the inconvenience and emphasized that maintenance is essential for ensuring optimal power equipment performance.
The country’s National Grid has collapsed several times in 2024 alone, thereby stressing the importance of maintaining critical power infrastructure.
The scheduled maintenance could be described as a proactive step to enhance grid stability amid frequent national grid collapses.
Furthermore, the country is also working to add 150 megawatts to the national grid by the end of 2024.
