Tanzania Plans Direct Flight to Nigeria to Boost Trade and Business Ties

The High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania to Nigeria, H.E. Selestine Gervas Kakele, has announced that plans are underway to establish a direct flight route between Tanzania and Nigeria, aimed at deepening trade and business relations between the two countries.
Kakele made the announcement during the Food and Beverage West Africa Exhibition in Nigeria, a major industry event that attracted over 6,000 visitors and 300 participants from across the continent and beyond. He disclosed that discussions on the direct air link are in their final stages, with operations expected to commence before the end of the year.
According to the envoy, the Tanzania High Commission not only took part in the exhibition but also showcased a variety of made-in-Tanzania products, spotlighting the country’s diverse offerings to the Nigerian market. He said the participation was a strategic move to introduce Tanzanian goods to West Africa’s largest economy and to build business-to-business connections.
Kakele highlighted the untapped potential of the West African market for Tanzanian exporters, noting that Nigeria’s large population and dynamic economy offer vast opportunities for trade expansion. He urged Tanzanian businesses and producers to actively engage in Nigerian exhibitions and trade fairs, positioning their products for regional growth and greater market access.
“This is a strong reason for Tanzanians to take the Nigerian market seriously,” he said, adding that the forthcoming direct flight will make business travel and trade logistics easier, faster, and more cost-effective.
The announcement marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing intra-African trade under frameworks such as the African Continental Free Trade Area(AfCFTA).
