Suspected Mortar Bomb Explosion Kills Five, Injures 15 in Kano

At least five people have been confirmed dead and 15 others injured following a suspected explosion involving a military-grade mortar bomb in Kano State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, triggering panic in the affected area and drawing a swift response from emergency services, including security forces and medical teams.
Speaking at the scene, the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, revealed that preliminary investigations point to a possible mishandling or improper transportation of military ordnance.
“I received a distress call about a serious incident, and upon arriving, it was clear we were dealing with a suspected explosion, possibly caused by a military mortar bomb. Sadly, five lives were lost, and 15 people sustained injuries,” he said.
According to the police chief, the victims were quickly evacuated, with those injured rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Bakori added that early findings indicate the explosive device may have been transported via a trailer, reportedly coming from Yobe State. However, it remains unclear whether the vehicle was operated by military personnel or private contractors.
“The situation is under investigation. We have not yet established the exact cause of the explosion or confirmed who was responsible for transporting the explosives,” he noted.
He urged the public to stay calm while assuring that security agencies are working diligently to uncover the full details surrounding the tragic incident.
