Sunshine Rosman Says She Studied Runs Girls To Perfect Role In To Kill a Monkey

Sunshine Rosman revealed that her mother is from Imo State while her father was Canadian. She spent her childhood in different parts of Lagos, including Ijeshatedo, Magodo, and Bode Thomas, before her family eventually returned to Ijesha.
Describing herself as a daddy’s girl, she fondly recalled how her father cooked for the family and encouraged her creativity. Acting, she said, was always part of her life. As a child, she and her sisters staged plays and musical performances for their father, who applauded them even when exhausted.
Her love for acting was first sparked by Marilyn Monroe, whose beauty and commanding screen presence inspired her to dream of the big screen. Though she never copied Monroe’s style directly, Sunshine admitted she still draws on the Hollywood legend for creative inspiration, sometimes adding Monroe’s photos to her mood board when deciding how to present herself.
Her big break came with To Kill a Monkey, though school exams initially clashed with filming. She thought she had missed the opportunity, but later received a call confirming her role—ironically after she had already told friends she would star in the film.
To bring Amanda Sparkles to life, Sunshine immersed herself in character study. She observed high-class Lagos socialites and spent time in clubs to understand their mannerisms, confidence, and lifestyle. “I use anchors to build my characters—people I study, objects, or my own experiences,” she said, crediting God’s grace for helping her embody the role naturally.
Reflecting on the movie, she said it taught her that no one is completely innocent. Every character carried both strengths and flaws, and Amanda’s journey reinforced the message that when life pushes you down, you must rise and change your story.
She also addressed rumours about speaking French fluently, clarifying that she only learned basic French at Alliance Française but remains eager to study languages to expand her acting opportunities.
Talking about her Nigerian–Canadian heritage, she admitted it sometimes makes casting difficult because she doesn’t fully look Nigerian or completely foreign, leaving producers unsure how to place her in family roles.
She praised actor Bucci Franklin as talented and kind, saying working with him is always a privilege.
Beyond acting, Sunshine is passionate about giving back. Her family has a long history of charity work, and her mother recently opened an orphanage in Abia State for eight girls.
Looking ahead, she hopes to act not just in Nollywood but also in Hollywood, Bollywood, and other international film industries, taking on roles that challenge her range. She avoids unnecessary intimate scenes, agreeing to them only when they serve a meaningful purpose, as they did in To Kill a Monkey.
She also plans to explore her interests in fashion, skincare, haircare, and makeup. When not working, she relaxes in peaceful spots like beaches and lakes or spends time with family and close friends.
