Former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has endorsed ex-President Goodluck Jonathan as the Peoples Democratic Party’s strongest contender for the 2027 presidential election, urging the party to bring him back into its fold.

“For PDP now, they should try to woo him; he is their best bet. Anybody put forth by the PDP, Nigerians will support him,” Lamido said on Friday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

He described Jonathan as an experienced leader who understands governance, listens to others, and works in partnership, adding that no current PDP member from the South can match his pedigree.

“He is most welcome, competent, and very qualified. With all respect to all members, I don’t see a better alternative than Jonathan if he comes to the PDP. Who is there in PDP now that can challenge Jonathan in terms of being in office, being full-headed, being willing to listen, and being a key player who believes in partnership?” he asked.

Lamido’s remarks come amid growing speculation about Jonathan’s possible return to the PDP to run in 2027. The former president, who has kept a low profile since his 2015 election loss, has not declared his intentions, but reports of quiet lobbying and negotiations have fueled talk of a political comeback.

His name has emerged as one to watch ahead of the polls, especially after former Vice President and serial PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar resigned from the party, triggering a wave of defections.
