Starlink Resumes New Customer Activations in Nigeria, Targets High-Demand Areas

Satellite internet provider Starlink has resumed onboarding new customers across Nigeria, with Lagos and Abuja leading as top-demand locations. The move marks a major return for the Elon Musk-led SpaceX venture after it temporarily halted activations in late 2024.
In a notice sent to prospective users via email on Saturday, Starlink confirmed that new subscriptions are now open, signaling renewed momentum in its mission to expand internet access across Nigeria.
The suspension in October 2024 followed concerns raised by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) over a price adjustment, prompting the company to pause further sign-ups while seeking regulatory alignment.
Now back in full swing, Starlink says the resumed activations reflect its commitment to reaching both underserved and high-demand communities across the country. With over 60,000 users already onboard in Nigeria, the company appears focused on strengthening its footprint in urban centres while offering satellite-powered connectivity to areas that lack stable broadband infrastructure.
The return of Starlink is expected to influence Nigeria’s competitive internet market by introducing more options for individuals, remote workers, and businesses in areas with limited access to traditional providers.
As demand for reliable internet continues to grow in Africa’s largest economy, Starlink’s expansion positions it as a key player in bridging Nigeria’s digital divide.
