Speed Darlington Urges President Tinubu to Reform Nigerian Police

Speed Darlington, the controversial Nigerian singer, has urged President Tinubu to overhaul the Nigeria Police Force.
In a video shared on Saturday, August 23, Speed Darlington emphasized that the Tinubu administration should not focus solely on boosting GDP and the economy but must also prioritize protecting citizens’ rights.
“Mr President, before you leave office, whether you secure a second term or not, try your best to improve Nigeria. Leadership isn’t just about the economy!
“Look around—people are calling your name, complaining. Nobody loves you except those you’ve given jobs to. Even your own tribe is complaining.
“As an Igbo man, my advice to ensure your legacy is remembered positively is simple: reform the police. Reform the police.
“The Nigerian Police is an oppressive agency entrenched in human rights violations. Often, if they don’t violate you, it’s as if they haven’t done their job.
“Please, before you leave office, speak to your Yoruba brother, the IGP. Arresting someone before investigation is a clear human rights violation. You arrest and detain first, investigate later.”
Recalling his personal ordeal with law enforcement, Speed Darlington said, “I was held for two months even after a judge ordered my release. FID detained me for two months.
“My lawyer told me that Nigerian law allows only 28 days for investigations. They held me for two months. Why the extra month? Because they could. If you pay them, they oppress your enemy. I’ve experienced it firsthand.”
