SpaceX Starship Explodes During Engine Test at Texas Facility, No Injuries Reported
Elon Musk’s SpaceX Starship exploded during a static fire test at the company’s Starbase facility in Texas on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, marking a significant setback in its ongoing development.
The explosion occurred as the spacecraft was being prepared for its 10th flight test—an important milestone for the Starship program. Although the blast was intense, SpaceX confirmed that no injuries were reported and all personnel on-site remained safe.
Initial findings point to a critical malfunction in the Raptor engine as the likely cause of the explosion while the vehicle was secured on a test stand. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the inherent risks involved in testing cutting-edge space technology.
The test failure comes amid heightened public attention on Elon Musk, following a heated exchange on X (formerly Twitter) between the SpaceX CEO and U.S. President Donald Trump just days prior.
