Sowore Vows to Storm Police HQ With Full Squad Of Activists

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has confirmed he will honour a police summons today, Wednesday, August 6, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja — and he’s not going alone.
In a statement issued Tuesday night, Sowore announced that he will appear before the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit with a team of fellow activists and freedom fighters. His appearance is expected to mark the launch of the #EgbetokunMustGo campaign, aimed at removing the current Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, alongside a broader nationwide #PoliceProtest movement.
The police had earlier invited Sowore for questioning over a petition accusing him of forgery and criminal defamation. The letter, dated August 5, did not include details of the allegations or reveal the identity of the petitioner. Sowore had requested that information in writing, but the Monitoring Unit insisted he must appear in person before such details could be disclosed.
In his Facebook post, Sowore said the timing of his appearance is intentional, as it will also serve as a symbol of protest against growing police repression and ongoing efforts to silence dissent.
The development has triggered speculation about possible nationwide demonstrations, with tensions rising in activist circles.
All attention now shifts to Abuja, where Sowore’s meeting with police may serve as a flashpoint for renewed civil resistance across the country.
