Sowore Shun Warnings, Lead Retired Police Officers in Protest

Activist Omoyele Sowore and other rights activists are leading a protest by retired Police officers in Abuja to demand improved welfare for personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Nigerian Union of Retired Police Officers is at the forefront of the protest, calling for their immediate removal from the contributory pension scheme, which they describe as “discriminatory”.
The retirees claim that the scheme has led to many of their members dying without benefiting from their pension.
The Nigerian Union of Retired Police Officers had vowed to picket the National Assembly complex and thereafter move to the Force Headquarters, calling for their immediate removal from the contributory pension scheme.
The Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC had warned against the protest, calling on the aggrieved retirees to return to the table for negotiations.
