Six Confirmed Dead in Akwa Ibom Road Accident – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has confirmed the death of six individuals in a tragic road accident that occurred on Wednesday, May 28, along the Mbiabong Itam road, off the Itu-Uyo highway in Akwa Ibom State.
According to a statement issued by the FRSC Sector Commander in Akwa Ibom, Edward Odiete, the fatal crash involved a commercial tricycle (Keke) bearing registration number DUU 407 WZ and an unregistered DYNA truck.
Odiete disclosed that a total of seven people — four adult males, one female, and two children — were involved in the incident. Unfortunately, six of them, including the children, were confirmed dead at the scene before emergency responders arrived. The only survivor, believed to be the driver of the DYNA truck, reportedly fled the scene before authorities arrived.
The bodies of the deceased have since been deposited in a morgue, the FRSC official confirmed.
Preliminary investigations and eyewitness accounts attributed the cause of the accident to excessive speeding and brake failure on the part of the truck driver.
Commander Odiete strongly cautioned motorists against reckless driving, speeding, and other dangerous road practices. He emphasized that the tragedy could have been avoided had the parties involved adhered to standard road safety measures and traffic regulations.
While extending condolences to the families of the victims, he urged all road users to prioritize safety by observing traffic laws to prevent further avoidable losses of life and property.
