Vice President Kashim Shettima has visited Mokwa, Niger State, following the devastating flood that claimed over 200 lives, destroyed homes, and displaced hundreds of residents.
During the visit, Shettima announced that President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate release of ₦2 billion for the reconstruction of all houses affected by the disaster. He also revealed that 20 trucks of rice have been released as emergency food aid to support victims of the flood.
“The President’s heart is with the people of Mokwa,” Shettima assured, adding that the federal government is fully committed to addressing all challenges facing the affected communities.
As part of the government’s emergency response, Shettima disclosed that President Tinubu has directed the immediate repair of the damaged bridges in the area, which are critical for mobility and the delivery of aid. He also confirmed that the rehabilitation of the town’s drainage systems will begin without delay to help prevent future flooding.
Shettima’s visit comes as part of the federal government’s effort to provide swift intervention and long-term support to those impacted by one of the worst floods in Niger State’s history.
