Senator Natasha Vows Fresh Legal Battle After Being Barred From National Assembly

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has threatened new legal action against the Senate leadership after security operatives blocked her from entering the National Assembly on Tuesday—despite a court order reinstating her.
The Kogi Central lawmaker, suspended for six months earlier this year, accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of contempt, insisting her legitimacy comes from the people and not from his office.
“Akpabio cannot be greater than the Nigerian Constitution. My legitimacy came from the people of Kogi who voted for me and INEC who declared me winner,” she told reporters after walking into the complex on foot.
Natasha stressed that the Senate’s appeal does not nullify the ruling by Justice Binta Nyako that overturned her suspension.
“That I’ve been denied entrance is a statement being made. It’s on record that the National Assembly under Akpabio has decided to be in contempt of a court decision. And it’s ironic—they are lawmakers,” she said.
She described her suspension as fraudulent and announced plans to approach the appellate court for interpretation and enforcement.
“I will have a meeting with my legal team so they proceed to the appellate court. I’m a law-abiding citizen,” she added.
