Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Insists on July 22 Senate Resumption Despite Akpabio’s Appeal

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has reaffirmed her decision to resume plenary duties at the National Assembly on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in accordance with a court ruling—despite an ongoing appeal by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
“I have pretty much two months more before the six months expire. However, I have written to the Senate again telling them that I’m resuming on the 22nd, which is on Tuesday, by the special grace of God,” she said.
“I will be there, because the court did make the decision on that. Now, they argue that it’s an order — it’s not an order, but it is a decision.”
Speaking from her constituency, where she is overseeing an empowerment programme, the senator said her suspension has not stopped her from working at the grassroots level, but it has limited her ability to fully carry out her legislative duties.
“I did mention that every senator has three major functions: legislative — which includes creating laws and reviewing treaties; oversight — to monitor ministers and agencies; and representation — which I’m actively doing,” she explained.
“While I’ve continued to represent my people and secure federal support, I’ve missed the opportunity to sponsor bills and motions. But that didn’t stop me from working.”
Akpoti-Uduaghan said she has officially notified the Senate of her intention to return on Tuesday, based on the court’s decision.
