Senator Gbenga Daniel, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, has dismissed rumours that Senate President Godswill Akpabio is receiving treatment in a London hospital.

During a brief stopover in London, Daniel met with Akpabio, who appeared in good health. He took the opportunity to inform him of his planned return to Nigeria ahead of the August 16 bye-election for the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency seat in Ogun State, which became vacant after the passing of former Deputy Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Adewumi Onanuga.

Speaking to Akpabio during the visit, Daniel said, “Your Excellency, the news out there is that you have been indisposed, but seeing you here now paints a very different picture. Congratulations, Your Excellency.”

In a statement from Akpabio’s Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, the Senate President thanked Daniel for the visit and expressed confidence that the ruling party would retain the seat.

“With the commitment and support of Governor Dapo Abiodun, your good self, and other party stakeholders in the state, we will retain the House of Representatives seat,” Akpabio said.

He also congratulated Daniel in advance, noting that both he and the governor come from the constituency.

Responding to the health rumours, Akpabio called them baseless, adding, “If you listen to the social media, you will go to war.”
