Senate Insists Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Remains Suspended

The Nigerian Senate has maintained that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is still under suspension, dismissing her attempt to resume legislative duties on Tuesday as premature and unauthorized.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, stated that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s return amounted to political drama and content creation. He insisted that the Senate had not received any valid court directive compelling her reinstatement.

“Even if there’s a court judgment, there’s a legal process for enforcement. Litigants don’t enforce court orders by themselves,” Adaramodu said during an interview on Channels TV.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, who was suspended for six months earlier this year, argued that a court ruling had voided her suspension. However, legal experts have clarified that the judgment only urged the Senate to review its rules—it did not explicitly order her recall.

Security personnel at the National Assembly stopped her from accessing the chamber, citing orders from above.

Despite public support and legal interpretation in her favor, the Senate insists that until due process is followed and a formal decision is made, Natasha remains suspended.
