“See Something, Say something ” Expert Urges Corps Members

Mr. Ben Shola Akinlade from the National Council Control of Arms, South West Zonal District recently addressed NYSC Lagos Batch B Stream II Corps members, shedding light on critical security issues and urging vigilance.
During his address at the NYSC Lagos camp, Akinlade revealed the existence of a government center, established in 1929, dedicated to combating illegal firearms manufacturing.
He then tackled the pressing issue of corruption in recruitment processes, warning corps members about organizations that exploit job seekers by collecting money under false pretenses of employment.
Akinlade cited examples like Natcom, which falsely claims to oversee Nigeria’s borders.
Emphasizing the paramount importance of corps members’ safety and security, Akinlade explained why training and lectures on these topics are mandatory at every NYSC orientation camp. “Your safety is our priority,” he stressed.
In light of growing concerns about firearms, Akinlade urged corps members to remain alert and report any suspicious activity promptly.
“See something, say something,” he emphasized, encouraging immediate action.
“Stay aware of your surroundings. Speak up when necessary. You can play a crucial role in preventing gun violence and ensuring community safety,” Akinlade concluded. The power of collective vigilance in maintaining security cannot be understated.
