Security Expert Stresses Personal Safety for Corps Members at NYSC Lagos Camp

Mr Fide Andepu, from the Cover Guard Security has said personal security is one of the best proactive and preventive measures in times of high threats levels.
He said this while delivering Security lecture to the 2023 batch “C” Stream II corps members at the NYSC Lagos Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, today.
Giving hints on how to ensure personal security, he said when embarking on adventures and recreations, it is necessary to request and obtain formal permission from the State Coordinator to do so given our unsafe environment, seek information about sites and places of adventure and recreation, avoid high risk places, and acquaint their friends or neighbour about their itinerary.
He also urged the corps members to pose a confident and positive image, and an assertive attitude in order to withstand unpleasant situations or people. While speaking on Home Security, he advised the corps members to relate well with neighbours, court the friendship of local security persons for distress calls, ensure all external doors are secured with locks and keep all access windows locked. On transit security, he advised the avoidance of narrow and lonely streets, keeping to main routes. Avoidance of areas notorious for public disorder.

The expert also urged the corps members to avoid giving lift to strangers and if they are using commercial vehicles, they should make use of well lit bus stops. The security expert also hinted the corps members on the need to get fresh drinks when their drinks are out of sight in a social gathering, and to prevent sexual assault by making plans of outing, sticking to a friend or group of friends and many more. The aim of security lecture is to arm corps members with necessary information about security to help them navigate through the service year.
